Guatemala Day 8 - Chichicastenango

We woke up and went for a quick swim in the hotel pool overlooking Lake Atitlan, had skipped breakfast to hit the road and head to Chichicastenango – and the world famous Mayan market, what a cultural experience - not just the market, but the drive across the country as well.  It was beautiful mountainous country, and I was amazed to see people farming  the steep hills.

It was a long drive back to Guatemala City, but we made it, and were thrilled to eat at Taco Bell and  use their flushable toilets with toilet seats and toilet paper!

We ended the night in the hot tub at the Barcelo Hotel. We had a nice Skype visit with the kids and can't wait to see them tomorrow.

Enjoy today's pics...

Terrace Farming

Solola

This woman was washing laundry on a rock at the bottom af a beautiful waterfall - another favorite!
I didn't get tired of seeing these old men in their traditional clothing. Notice the family of 4 on the motorcycle - another common sight.

The most interesting shoe shine Brent has ever had.

These men would strap bags large, heavy bags on their backs and use a strap across their forehead to help manage the weight.

Cabbage

Handmade woodwork. Leila couldn't resist - she bought a small chair.  Now to see how to get it home.

2-Liters aren't big enough for these little people.

Avocados

Chichi - We parked with the pigs

Pay to use the bathroom.  Don't forget to wash your hands in the blue barrels of water.

Mayan catholics have some interesting traditions.  They were burning incense and chanting on the steps of the cathedral.

Weighing the corn

Drinking from a bag

Guacamole

Twisty, windy road to Chichi

We never thought we'd be so happy to eat at Taco Bell....and use their bathrooms!

We ate here several times on our trip.

Taco Bell fries in Guatemala

How will we ever fit all of this stuff onto the airplane
